Receiving a review is always a special moment for a writer.
Behind every word is someone who has taken the time to enter the world you created, live in it for a few hours, and then stop to tell you what it left behind.
This time, I want to share with you the words of phoebysoul, who read The Midnight Girl and decided to share her experience on Instagram.
The first sentence that caught me was this:
“I came across this psychological novel that, once I finished it, left me completely speechless.”
And I have to admit, that already brought tears to my eyes.
When I write a story, I can never know what a reader will feel while reading it. I can imagine it, I can hope to surprise them, move them, or leave something behind, but then comes the moment when the book leaves my hands and becomes the reader’s.
Knowing that The Midnight Girl managed to surprise her so much that it left her speechless is something that truly means a lot to me.
But there is another sentence that touched me even more:
“Her writing has something truly special and unique.”
This, perhaps, is one of the most beautiful things a writer can hear.
Knowing that something in my writing reached a reader truly moves me.
I was also touched by the way phoebysoul chose to talk about her reading experience without revealing too much, leaving the mystery intact and inviting her Mostricciattoli to discover for themselves what lies behind this story.
That is exactly what I would want.
Because The Midnight Girl is one of those stories that I would rather not explain too much.
Some things are meant to be discovered while reading.
And then there is that final sentence.
“Thank you for listening to me…”
Those who have read the book know how much weight those words carry.
Seeing them at the end of her review affected me in a very particular way. Because it means she didn’t simply read the story: she also understood something that, for me, was important to leave between the pages.
